About Ukelønn.
A Norwegian family app built by a small team over 2.5 years. 13,693 users, 6,027 families, zero marketing spend. This is the story and the company behind it.
Our story
It started with a simple wish: to automate chores at home and turn screen time into something meaningful. Kids are on their phones anyway — we wanted to build a place where that time actually teaches them something about the value of work and money. No ads, no social distractions, no attempts to sell them anything. Just chores, allowance, and a clear link between effort and reward.
So we sat down and built it ourselves. The first version was simple — a list of chores, a balance, and a button to pay out. No plans for a company, no thought of users beyond our own family. Just a tool that did the job — without ads, without distractions, without all the noise other apps drag along.
It took more than 2.5 years to reach a stable version. Along the way it was rewritten several times, tested by a slowly growing number of families, and shaped by feedback from real parents and real children. No investors, no growth targets, no pitch decks — just one goal: that the app had to be good enough that we would use it ourselves.
Since launch in November 2022, Ukelønn has grown to 13,693 users and 6,027 families. All organic, spread through word of mouth between parents, without a single krone spent on marketing. The app is still independent, still free, and still Norwegian.
Our principles
Four simple rules we have held to since the start. None of them are new or surprising — but they have guided every decision along the way.
Product first, growth second
We spend our time making the app better, not marketing it. If the product is good enough, parents pass the word along. That is how we reached 13,693 users without a single krone in paid ads.
Built to be used every day
We have spent 2.5 years on the details because an app that lives in your daily routine has to work without waiting, without crashes, and without confusion. Fewer menus, faster flow, screens that have been thought through. That is what separates a tool families actually use from an app that ends up forgotten on the home screen.
No ads, no distractions
The app is clean. No banners, no popups, no third-party ad trackers. Kids should be able to focus on chores, saving and habits — not get pulled into ads while they are using the app. That is part of how we designed the product, not a marketing line bolted on afterwards.
Built in Norway, for Norwegian families
Ukelønn is written in Norwegian, works in kroner, and is built with Norwegian money culture in mind. It is not a Silicon Valley app in translation. It is a Norwegian tool for Norwegian homes.

The company
Ukelønn is owned and operated by CreatorsJourney AS, a Norwegian limited company registered with the Brønnøysund Register Centre.
We spend our time on the product. Fewer meetings, more iterations, quality over noise. That is the line that has shaped Ukelønn from day one — and that guides which collaborations we take on.
Feedback from real parents and real children lands directly with the people who build the app. That means quick decisions, short iterations, and a level of quality we are happy to stand behind.
